Manisha’s Books
Women’s Economic Empowerment
My fascination with all things women and money began at an early age. I tried (unsuccessfully!) to publish my first book back in 1992. It was called “Thin, Thinner, Thinnest” and was a look at how the growing obsession with body image in America interfered with women’s ability to focus on their work. My next book, The Other Side of Thirty: Musings of a Modern Day Bachelor Gal was self-published in 2001. It was my response to the Sex and The City craze – i.e. a desire to show what it was really like to be a single working woman over thirty and grappling with issues of economic empowerment. (Note: I married my wonderful husband, Randy, in 2006 at the ripe ‘ole age of 36. He is my best friend and a huge proponent of women’s economic empowerment). Following this, I co-wrote two critically acclaimed personal finance books On My Own Two Feet: A Modern Girl’s Guide to Personal Finance (Adams Business, 2007) and Get Financially Naked: How to Talk Money with Your Honey (Adams Business, 2010).
How Manisha Ended Up Focusing Full Time on Financial Literacy for Women
In marketing these two personal finance books, I discovered that the thing in life that lights my fire the brightest is highlighting issues related to global women’s economic empowerment. So I left corporate America (in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression, yeesh…) to devote myself full time to teaching, writing, and speaking about all things women and money.
Can Your Story Inspire Other Women To Achieve Economic Empowerment?
I am currently exploring the idea of a next personal finance book, tentatively titled… MONEYZEN: achieve financial peace of mind, 15 minutes at a time. I am actively looking for women to interview who have hit positive turning points in their relationship with money. If you’d like to share your story about your path to economic empowerment, please email me at Manisha [at] ManishaThakor [dot] com.
